BLINK has been developed by artist Lisa Cheung together with public works for Neighbourhood Watching, a residents led public art initiative for St Peter's Estate in Tower Hamlets, London.
BLINK is a cross-estate communication project based on a simple light and colour coded language.
BLINK consists of three elements:
BLINK Beacons, which will be distributed to each of the 180 households, to send messages from the flats.
BLINK DIctionary, which explains the different messages that have been collected from residents.
BLINK Chandelier, a robust and colourful structure in the central court yard, for hanging the individual beacons and creating a collective public light feature and light source for public events.
Public works collaborated with Sarah Butler - writer, in running a workshop with the Braithwaite house residents/children on creating a secret, fictional garden. The stories and drawings of the fictional garden will be in the next fanzine.
Yesterday we had a very successful launch and sale of the first Fanzines for this project. It was decided by the residents that the proceeds should go to funds being collected for a little girl on the estate with cancer.
