As part of Assembles 'Folly for a flyover'
project the Wick
Curiosity Shop was invited down to open it's doors to the
public in Hackney Wick, under the fkyover on the Eastway.
The shop becoming an interactive 'Wick Tourist Information' point at the mobile porch, inviting people to learn a little more about what makes the Wick the Wick! A guide called ON foot was created by Polly Brannan from the shop with illustrations of the Wick and it's many hero's by UAE based illustrator Khlaid Mezaina, it was given to onlookers to guide themselves around the Wick with a map and a badge! 'Tourists' contributed ideas, stories and their observations from the ON foot guide to the ever growing Wick Curiosity Shop's archive they were also encouraged to have their picture taken next to one of the large Wick landscapes created by Khalid as a postcard and piece of Wick memorabilia to to take home with them. The shop's archive was on display through out the day.
Mobile Porch is on a month long visit at Abbey Wood and Woolwich in South East London. Polly and Paul from Avant Gardening are roaming through two estates on two separate projects. For more details visit their ever growing Avant Gardening website.
This years first outing of the Mobile Porch is in Crouch End, North London. You can join Bethany and Lisa for 'Finding the Plot', a weekend of guerrilla gardening, plot-finding and community conversations at the interactive garden workshop - aka Mobile Porch. The workshop takes place outside Hornsey Town Hall, Crouch End Broadway, N8 this Saturday and Sunday the 13 and 14th of March. Or the follwoing weekend on Camspbourne Estate, Hornsey, N8 which is the 27 and 28th March.

Also - rumour has it that our friends at Avant Gardening received funding which will see the Mobile Porch visit south London later in the year.
The Wick Curiosity Shop is an eclectic collection of local produce, memorabilia, oral history, songs and stories from or about Hackney Wick. On the day of the Hackney Wick Festival 2008 the shop will offer a rich mixture of displays and performances, bringing together the weird and the wonderful found in Hackney Wick. The Wick Curiosity Shop is produced by artists public works and Pudding Mill River.
The Wick Curiosity Shop will be based on the mobile porch - a mobile piece of mini architecture, which has been roaming around the area in August and September.

public works together with Pudding Mill River have been invited by Space Studios to make a contribution to the Hackney Wick Festival which will take palace on the 27th of September on the green outside the church in Hackney Wick. Our contribution is called the Wick Curiosity Shop and brings together the weird and wonderful world hidden in Hackney Wick. To generate interest in the shop we will have a series of small scale, informal events leading up to the festival. First showing is this Wednesday the 6th of August. Come along if you would like to tell us about something that should be part of the shop or drop in for a drink of some locally harvested and produced elder-flower champagne kindly sponsored by Pudding Mill River.

Parasite Paradise was an open air exhibition of mobile architecture in the Leische Rijn area near Utrecht, on of the largest dutch residential developments. The mobile structure were arranged as a kind of small village, where they took on different functions, such as a kitchen, hotel, farm,etc. The Mobile Porch got used as a board for new public announcements and a stage for small scale events.
